With all the talk of the Iowa State Fair I decided to make my annual trip to our local version in Montgomery County, Maryland. Not a stump speech to be found! But what could be found was every possible variety of bunny rabbit, goat and crocheted afghan! And rather than every possible version of food on a stick, as in Iowa, here we have every possible version of straight out fried food. Witness diabetic versions of the quintessential fried Oreo! And the rides; what would a summer fair be without rides? At my age there are only a few I can endure without experiencing the kind of dizziness that feels like my head is exploding. In this photograph (entitled "Fried Dough, 16" x 20", on glossy paper, $50), you can see my favorite ride on the right, the one in which people fly through the air on swings. It seems the older I get the more I want to do daredevil things. One year the two girls on the swings next to me were looking only at their phones as they flew through the air for the entire length of the ride! In disbelief I felt I had to film them, which meant that I was then also on my phone while flying through the air in a swing! I hope you have been having a sweet, happy life this summer. If you'd like a print of the image above just reply to this email. If you'd like to see more of my work please go to www.amymarx.com. If you'd like to see the video of the girls texting while flying let me know and I'll forward that on to you! Thanks for taking the time to read through to this point. Feel free to reply with any thoughts. Enjoy what's left of the season. As always, Amy |
